Teacher and Student Blogging Challenges from EduBlogs

By Wesley Fryer
Thursday, August 30th, 2012

If you’re interested in learning more about educational blogging and helping your students become better bloggers, consider accepting a “teacher blogging challenge” and sharing “student blogging challenges” in programs coordinated by EduBlogs. Even though today is officially the end of Connected Educator’s Month, these challenges remain available and open for teachers and students to utilize. A wealth of archived presentations from Connected Educators’ month are also available for personal and faculty professional development.

The initial teacher challenges are ideal for educators just getting started with blogging. Start with a personal blog, and learn how to write posts, setup pages, use images, embed media, and more.

Suggested “advanced task” activities are also available for those with prior blogging experiences. One of my favorite “advanced ” challenges is to create an avatar to use on your blog. Suggested free sites for Avatar creation include Picassoheads, illustmaker, and Reasonably Clever. This is a Lego mini-figure style avatar I created with Reasonably Clever. If you’re thinking you could spend a lot of time on these sites customizing an avatar, you’re right! That time can be worthwhile, however, if you create an avatar you like and your students can enjoy. It’s just one small way you can enhance your blog and further personalize it to make it your own.
