Educator Spotlight: Carol Mortensen of MyWeb4Ed.com

By Lindsey
Friday, July 13th, 2012

From time to time on this blog I want to show you what others are doing, I am calling it The Educator Spotlight. Maybe you can connect with other teachers in the program this way, or see ideas that you would like to implement. One of the first teachers who entered the program when I took over less than a month ago is Carol Mortensen. Carol heard about iThemes while she was researching WordPress and looking at frameworks. While on the site and loving our products she saw the education program and applied. Here is more information about Carol from her about page:

Carol Mortensen has nearly twenty-three years of educational experience. She served as a teacher for 16 years and was lucky to have taught at Hillcrest Middle School, a 1:1 campus where every student  was issued a laptop computer.  She also worked as an Instructional Technology Trainer for her district providing training and technology integration support for campus and district staff, faculty and administrators. The Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) named Carol the Classroom Teacher of the Year for her innovative and creative use of technology to create a 24/7 virtual classroom using her classroom website.

So, as you can see Carol really knows her stuff! Carol and I talked on the phone, I sent her all of the registration information. Within 24 hours she already was working on a new look for her blog, using the support forums and learning about all of iThemes tools. After she had been a member of the education program for a week she sent this:

“The support is tremendous and I am able to be completely set up with a look I love and ready to tweak as needed!  I’ve added plugins, watched and learned from videos and tutorials, and used the forum!  Excellent, excellent product and great for educators!”

Please go and see Carol’s new site at MyWeb4Ed and let her know what you think! You can also follow her on twitter: @MyWeb4Ed
